Western’s Indigenous Student Centre and the Office of Indigenous Initiatives stand in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement and Black communities at Western University, in London Ontario, and across Turtle Island. As members of a racialized group who struggle at the systemic intersections of racism, settler colonialism, and global capitalism, we understand the importance of allyship and solidarity, not only during times of struggle, but in our daily actions and relationships. We ask members of the Western and Indigenous communities to join us in anti-racism educational learning, listening to the voices of Black communities, and finding meaningful ways to use our collective agency to influence systemic changes. As such, over the next academic year, we will be offering anti-racism education, and creating spaces for dialogue with Black and Indigenous communities in our programming. #blacklivesmatter

Western University is located on the traditional lands of the Anishinaabek, Haudenosaunee, Lūnaapéewak and Attawandaron peoples, on lands connected with the London Township and Sombra Treaties of 1796 and the Dish with One Spoon Covenant Wampum. This land continues to be home to diverse Indigenous Peoples (First Nations, Métis and Inuit) whom we recognize as contemporary stewards of the land and vital contributors of our society.
